【摘要】:Nosinglesetoftestconditionscanrepresentallclimaticanduseconditions,sothisWVTRtestmethodservesmoretocomparedifferentmaterialsatastatedsetofconditionsthantopredicttheiractualperformanceinthefieldunderanyconditions.Thewatervaportransmissionrate,underknownandcarefullycontrolledconditions,maybeusedtoevaluatethevaporbarrierqualitiesofasheet.Directcorrelationofvaluesobtainedunderdifferentconditionsoftesttemperatureandrelativehumiditywillbevalidprovidedthebarriermaterialundertestdoesnotundergochangesinsolidstate(suchasacrystallinetransitionormeltingpoint)atorbetweentheconditionsoftest.1.1Thistestmethodcoversdynamicevaluationoftherateoftransferofwatervaporthroughaflexiblebarriermaterialandallowsconversiontothegenerallyrecognizedunitsofwatervaportransmission(WVT)asobtainedbyvariousothertestmethodsincludingthegravimetricmethoddescribedinTestMethodsE96/E96M.1.2Limitations8212;Thistestmethodislimitedtoflexiblebarriersheetmaterialscomposedofeithercompletelyhydrophobicmaterials,orcombinationsofhydrophobicandhydrophilicmaterialshavingatleastonesurfacethatishydrophobic.1.3Theminimumtestvalueobtainedbythistestmethodislimitedbytheleakageofwatervaporpasttheclampingsealsofthetestinstrument.Areasonablevaluemaybeapproximately0.01g/24hx00B7;m2foranyWVTRmethodincludingthedesiccantprocedureofTestMethodsE96/E96Mat37.8x00B0;C,and90%relativehumidity.Thislimitcanbecheckedforeachinstrumentwithanimperviousspecimensuchasaluminumfoil.Calibrationprocedurescancompensatefortheleakagerateifsostated.1.4Thistestmethodisnotsuitableforrefereetestingatthistime,butissuitableforcontroltestingandmaterialcomparison.1.5SeveralotherASTMtestmethodsareavailabletotestasimilarproperty.Thistestmethodisuniqueinthatitcloselyduplicatestypicalproductstoragewhereatransferofmoisturefromapackageintotheenvironmentisallowedtoproceedwithoutconstantlysweepingtheenvironmentalsidewithdrygas.MethodswithconstantlysweptdrysidesincludeTestMethodsF1249,F372,andF1770.1.6ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
